Garage Decorating

When you think of decorating, typically a room within a home, however, there is another type of decorating that can completely change the look of your home, giving it style and character. This type of decorating has to do with your garage, which is usually the one aspect of homes that is overlooked. You will find homes painted, trim enhanced with a coordinating color, and even front doors painted. However, very seldom is anything done with the garage.

Today, many decorators and homeowners are looking at ways of improving the look of the garage, finding that the entire house looks better with the right changes. For instance, the inside of the garage can be updated to add storage shelves, cleaning up the messy paint cans and gardening tools from the floor. You can add hinged top boxes to store shoes, the garden hose, gardening clippers, and so on. Cabinetry can also be added, giving you even more storage space up above for all types of items. The result will be a nice, clean appearance that also provides a more functional garage.

If you want to be even more creative, enhance the cabinets with a paint job, trimmed out with accent paint. In other words, you do not need to settle for plain, boring cabinets. By applying color, you can change the entire appearance in no time at all. If the cabinets are open, you can be a little whimsical by painting the inside of each cabinet a different color. Just be creative and have fun with color to brighten up the interior of the garage.

Moving to the outside, look at the color of your home along with architecture and come up with ways to spruce up the garage doors. If you visit your local home improvement store, you can purchase trim to create various designs. This trim can then be painted a contrasting color. Let us say your home is loaded with country colors. The main body of the home is mauve, the main trim a deep green, and then accent trip a lighter green. For your garage, you could paint the garage doors the light green color and then accent it with the deep green and mauve. The contrasting colors would be stunning.

By choosing one primary hue, you can then select distinctive colors with different intensity in the same color scheme. This creates a fresh look that is fun and invigorating. Another wonderful color scheme is yellow with a nice, ocean blue accented with deep golden yellow and warm blue tones. By using the right color combinations and accenting with trim, you can actually make your home look larger by expanding it with the presentation of color. If you have the ability to draw or have it in your budget to hire an artist, you can have a beautiful border or incredible mural painted onto your garage.

Finally, do not overlook the importance of lighting, both inside and outside. In fact, many people are now installing ceiling fans inside their garage, which is great lighting while the fan keeps the garage cool and helps circulate the air. For the exterior, choose something unusual that will become the focal point of the garage. To get some ideas of what the market offers, visit your home improvement store where you will discover incredible options.
