Black & White Decor

Instead of being afraid of black and white décor, you might try to embrace it. You will probably be surprised at just how chic a black and white room can be. This type of décor creates a great foundation for something spectacular. While the black and white will outline, underline, and sharpen the room, you can add in bright punches of color to make the room pop.

With black and white décor, you have a room that is elegant, clean, and fresh. The nice thing is that black and white can be added with any other color to create an entirely new look. For example, by adding in red, you create an Asian influence. By adding in pink, you could go for a New Orleans style. By adding in touches of yellow and blue, you have an amazing contemporary room. If you want to use a black and white scheme in your own home, perhaps the following ideas will help guide you.

Choose vinyl tile that is an alternating black and white design for a kitchen or entryway. For a dining room, you could use white ceramic with sporadic black tiles for accent.

In the bathroom, along with the black and white, you want to add some bold colors to create a dramatic look. For example, if your countertop is black marble or granite, set it off using accessories of gold, copper, or blue.

For the walls, with a white background, you can hang artwork or prints that are either black and white or created with strong colors that are hung in black, lacquer frames. If you want to use black and white photos but add a pop of color, use a red or gold mat to create a touch of drama.

The bedroom should be crisp and clean, using fine, white linens and a down comforter. To embellish the bed, use a black bed skirt. Then you could add in a black and white toile chir with colorful pillows.

Fabric in the black and white room should be colorful. If you want a room that is more subtle, then use just a few pieces of colorful accents. If you want a room that is dramatic, then you can add more colorful pictures, accents, and pillows.

For the window treatments, if you want black draperies, you might consider having a white trim that goes around the outside edge to break up the black so it is not so stark.

Many contemporary and loft homes will use the black and white décor. By adding in a deep, charcoal Berber carpet and then using accents of hot pink, mustard, and red, you will enhance that contemporary look.

The black and white décor can be used with any style, even country. In this case, you could use the gingham fabrics of black and white, choose wrought iron, stencil areas of the kitchen wall with a checkerboard design, and so on.

You can even choose china patterns that will go with your black and white décor. For example, a beautiful choice is a black and white toile that has magnificent bands of yellow.
