Ceiling Fans

With summer coming, why not install a ceiling fan that will enhance the look of your room and keep you cool. The nice thing about fans is that you can open your windows at night, turn the fan on, and enjoy a cool, natural breeze to help you sleep like a baby.

Ceiling fans are an excellent way to conserve energy. You can install them in any room of the house, and use them indoors and outdoors. Ceiling fans come in a number of styles, colors, and finishes. If you want something romantic, you can choose from blades that are covered with fabric. For a tropical ambience, there are actually cabana-type fans. No matter what look you are after, you will achieve it by using a ceiling fan.

When shopping for ceiling fans, you need to think about other things in addition to look. For example, the operation of the fan is an important aspect. If the fan will be installed on a tall ceiling, then you would have trouble pulling a pull chain. In this case, you should consider buying a fan that can work off remote control. In fact, many fans on the market today come with remote control since this is such a popular feature. If you find a fan that does not have remote control, you can purchase a kit for less than $50.

The weight of the ceiling fan is another consideration. Make sure the place where you want to hang the fan can accommodate the weight of the fan you like. If you are not sure, talk to a representative at your local home improvement or lighting center, or contact the manufacturer.

You will need to know the height of the ceiling where the fan will be hung. If the room is large, then you want a large fan and for a small room, a smaller fan. A great guideline is that for rooms up to 50 square feet, a 29-inch fan would be ideal. For rooms that are up to 74 square feet, you want a 36-inch fan, for rooms up to 100 square feet, a 42-inch fan would work best and for rooms up to 400 square feet, you should look at a 50 to 52-inch fan.

Think about the design of the room. Do you want the fan to be a focal point in that room or do you want it to be just a functional light fixture. You could choose a beautiful fan that comes with ornate lights, making it something that will stand out and look great. If you prefer, you can choose a fan that has a wood finish that matches the room with a simple light so it does not become the focal point of the room.

If you are putting the ceiling fan in a childs bedroom, you will have a wonderful selection of fun fans. You will find some that look like airplanes, some that are decorated with ballet shoes, and others that look like sporting equipment such as a basketball, baseball, or soccer ball.

You will also find a number of motor finishes such as brushed nickel, steel, pewter, bronze, copper, brass, white, and iron. The blades are also available in several different finishes such as walnut, oak, pine, walnut, and so on.
